G'day to all,
I went out detecting yesterday with a mate.
I only had ime for a short hunt but thought it would be good to catch up with him and detect again together.
We tried a spot he researched in the hope of modern coins but it was sparse and we mover slightly into a small park.
For those who care about such things, I was using the 5x10" DD HF in program 2, tracking on with sens about 23.
I got a nice high tone hit which didnt vary and was super solid,
I thought it was another big silver coin like the Florins that I found last week.
From 4" or so down up came a medal.
I couldnt read it and John came over when he saw the big smile on my face.
He read the year and words out for me ...a college that ran 1893-1949.
I told him that I thought it was silver due to the 42 TID reading.
At home later I cleaned it up and it says STL. SIL on the edge of the medal, it weighs 18.4 grams.
In the pic that I post I have blanked out the name of the recipient, he is 84 and still alive I believe.
The family is famous and prominent in my city.
It will be handed back to him as soon as I can contact him through his son...today is a public holiday here.
Anyway I thought you may like to see it before it goes back to him.
Happy swinging everyone.
