This item is about 2 1/2 inches tall, has a hole in thr top and a small slit in the bottom, right above the sterling mark. Back is smooth, has no design or marking. Does anyone know what this is? Thanks,Earl

If it is very thin, could it be a boo mark? What ever it is it is a neat find...d2

Hello d2. It is very thin. Another person who acually held it, also suggested that it might be a book marker. Thanks for the response.

Earl did you find it in your yard, park on the beach or where. That shud give you a clue as to what it could be also...Tim

Earl--
Had a chance to do a bit of checking, and the pattern on your bodkin looks identical to that of a late Victorian set of three bodkins in a case, made by Unger Bros., as shown on p. 53 of Silver Curios in the Home by Dorothy T. Rainwater & Beryl Frank. Am adding a link to more info about Unger Bros.
HH,

Buckram,
I pulled up the links and I agree. It is a Sterling Bodkin. Thanks for the great research. I do appreciate it. I probably would have gone for years not knowing what it was. Thanks.
Earl

Tim,
I believe Buckram has nailed it. It is a Bodkin. I found it on Saturday Oct 30th. South Dallas. At an old housing project that has just been razed. Large area to hunt. Will be going back this saturday. There were some other old items found by some friends. Small Dallas courts badge, skeleton key and a couple of tokens. Should be more to find. Thanks.
Earl
