Sterling finds at Millington Naval Base

The F2 picked up these (2) peices of sterling on the north side of the "offically closed" naval base. They were about 6" down, lying next to a concrete walk-way. This was the first time I hunted this particular area. One of the locals told me that the now vacant lot was an old navy barracks. I only swung about an hour and also dug a couple of wheats along with the St. Christopher pendants. No doubt I plan to revisit.

Nice finds! Check out the vacant lot across from the YMCA south of Navy Road too. There used to be base housing there. Lots of trash from tearing down the houses but occaisional silver coins too. I live about 5 miles west of the base and I was stationed there for avionics school in 1984, worst chow hall in the Navy.
I've been trying to track down the owners of the old drive in theater next to Lowes for about a year but I can't get any response from e-mails and letters to the listed owners. It was a flea market site for years after the theater closed down. It will probably all get paved over soon as that area gets developed.

I and some others I know have been hunting the old housing development across from the Y and have done pretty good. I've recovered over 60 silvers from there as well as numerous gold and silver jewelry items over the past 10 months since getting my F75. Its been hunted hard over the years, but continues to yield some goodies. Maybe I'll see you guys around. HH jim tn

Thanks 4 the heads up hsjrev. I've hunted the vacant lots north of Centennial Park, but never seem to find anything. It's real trashy, and I have yet to use the 4" coil.

Thanks 4 the reply jmaryt. Yes, the F2 was loud and clear. I think the VDI maxed out at around 88+. The vacant lot sits between the indoor basketball court and the baseball fields. From where I was swinging, I could see Millington PD Hq, just over the fence line, on the north side of the lot. I can't wait to swing the baseball fields. If any of you are familiar with Joyner Park, which is behind Millington Middle, I've found a lot of good stuff there. At least (2) civil war bullets and two nice chunks of melted lead, and not to mention the clad coins.

Bozack, the vacant lots are trashy to say the least, but that type of ground seems to be where the Fisher F's really shine. I use both the stock and small coils for my F75 there and have pulled some really good and interesting finds from the site. Obviously, I don't get silver every outing, but that whole area around the Y and base still produces. And, it has been pounded over the years. HH jim tn

Thanks Jim for the reply. I tried to swing that particular area this morning, but it started to rain. I'll try again tomorrow. Thanks.

apparently the f2 locks up super on silver!..88 is a very high nice bang!...

the only way these places can even be hunted with any level of success is with the current f series technology!..it seems to be that way every where you go these days, just a "ton" of "crap". without the introduction of this "nano-second" separation technology, these sites will go begging for a long time!..everything is just too close together, and ya gotta "cherry pick" with a detector that will properly id all those targets, and NOT mask them!
