Howdy Guys and Gals: I should have my new Explorer in my hands this weekend from David at Dixie Metal Detectors (thanks David). I'm a former Sov user and very excited about getting the explorer. I've been reading anything I can get my hands on or located on the internet about programming the XS. One question I have not seen discussed yet is the pros and cons of running sensativity in semi-auto vs manual. Any thoughts?

Stick with semi-auto for a week or two and then experiment with manual.
When you finally do go to manual, run it up until it falses a lot, and then back off 2 or 3 steps. Most people find happiness in the early to mid 20's.
What is the advantage of one over the other? Some people, self included, feel like semi-auto is too conservative and drops your sensativity more than is justified.
There are plenty of folks that just leave it in semi-auto and are very successful, so you may decide that you are happy with it and leave it alone. I'd give both a try.

although i've been using semi-auto since i recieved my xs from david nov. last, i have been experimenting with manual. it drives me crazy since i like to hear a constant threshold. my opion. ken

Richard,
For me it isnt the case of wheither to run manual or Semi auto as semi auto is smoother, but found that at time it will chatter a lot because of the changing conditions and then I have to run manual. Then there is times that manual will not run smmoth and I have to go to semi auto.
If I had my choice manual would be the way i would go as I find it is more sensitive to the weaker signals.
If you had a Sovereign and learned it well I am sure you have seen where manual made a big difference on the deep ones. I think the Explorer is the same way.

Hi all, thanks for your input. I have the XS in my hands now and I can see that there may be times when one is better than the other. I expected a bit of a learning curve going into this. On Day 0, after about an hour of listing to the magic flute I headed back home to listen to know targets. Day one, I spent about 3 hours at a local park and ended up with a clad quarter, 3 clad dimes and 2 Memorals plus 6 or 7 crushed screw caps, a bolt with a washer and one square tab. Certainly not great by any means but encouraging. I'm heading back out this evening for a couple of hours, we'll see if the curve is getting stepper or what.
