Got permission to hunt a 50's-60's house yesterday so I headed out there this afternoon after keeping a doctor's appointment. Anyway, I started by what was left of a falling down carport type of structure. Didn't hit anything but, I kept going around a pile of 6 sheets of corrugated tin. I put my X-70 down and moved the sheets out of the way and proceeded to detect where the sheets had been. Right away a got a warbly -8 in AM mode. I was going to go on but decided what the heck I'll see what it is. Down about, maybe 2" I spotted my find. This is my first one ever. Did a happy dance and headed home, knees were a little sore from cortisone shots in them. Gotta go back.

that you would even find one intact, let alone in that condition in the ground. You either have zero humidity or were detecting on the Moon, even Mars would have enough moisture to rust that sucker!

Congrats, that's a rare in ground find.

I hear what you are saying. Actually quite a few coins I have found here in dry,dry New Mexico are in very good shape. The only coins in bad shape are coins that come from city parks where the grass is watered on a regular basis. In this area you can go out to old homesteads out in the desert, dig and the dirt is dry as a bone, hard packed sand. You can see where mother nature was starting to work on the penny on the left wheat stalk.
