Steel penny VDI?

Bob in SoMd

New member
Working an area where there are PLENTY of wheaties from the '40s. Still haven't dug a steel cent. What is a rough VDI for steel wheaties? Thanks!

Boy, I've gotten two of them, but I honestly don't know what they VDI at. One was with another wheat cent and the other was by itself. HH, Nancy

Great question Bob! It got me curious because I have found a few in the past but I honestly don't remember. So I got one out and did an air test and, to my surprise, it rang in consistently between 80 and 83. I don't pay alot of attention to the screen when I detect, so I knew it must have sounded "good" for me to dig it, but that high of a vdi is surprising. But then again, I have seen iron washers ring in high also,

Jeff

Thanks Jeff - I think I have one tucked away somewhere. I'll dig it out and do the air test on it. I definitely haven't been passing up any signals in the 80-83 range.
