steel coin signal

Can anyone give me an idea on what kind of target ID a steel coin will give me on me AT Pro? will it be below the preset 35 or come in higher than that?

Dennis

The amount of oxide (rust) on the coin will change it's VDI number. Hunt with the iron audio turned on to help ID iron targets.

Well below 35 I would say. i'll have to check and old steel penny to confirm. You must not be hunting in Pro mode, no preset there!!

Thanks for the info, I have hunted in the pro mode but I am just learning so I try a little bit of everything. I have been trying to stay in the standard/zero mode and dig everything for right now. I just was jus wondering if I would miss a steel coin, not that i will find any yet but I guess anything is possible.

I can't believe a steel penney would still be intact. They would surley rust away after being in the ground for too long.

I found a 1943 steel penny that was'nt rusted at all and I was totally Jazzed, however I dont think that it had been in the ground very long even though it was buried perhaps two inche's deep.I think had it been a great many years in the ground that there would have been little left of it to find.So since a few may be in circulation due to little hands buying Candy and such with pennies found on Granpas Dresser, its not inconceivable that you may get lucky and find one.

I dug a steel cent once when I first started with the AT Pro and was digging everything, and it rang in in the 20s...
