Mike-- I don't have a T-2 (MXT) but was looking at the early posts and there was a thread about IDing steel caps 
in the ground. You all might have solved this by now--don't have time to read all posts! But I did post about a method that works for the MXT and was confiremed in other posts. Since the T-2 was engineered by someone who designed for White's this might just work for the T-2ers. Basically -just come from the side and do a little 'bounce' like tapping a few times--it goes negative:
