Stealth 720 Scoop?

I have a Tiger Shark and will be doing freshwater detecting in the great lakes, rivers, and local lakes. Is the Sunspot 720 stealth a good scoop? The 720 has a 20 degree angle the classic is a 90 degree handle. Is there an advantage to the 20 degree handle on the scoop? Is there a different scoop I should be looking at? Most of the areas I will be are sand, but some could get slightly gravely. I am a newbie at this and any suggestions would be appreciated! I would like to only buy one scoop and get it right the first time.

I use a stavr personally but I think the 720 is a great scoop for surf especially It is what 15 inches long? That is a 1 scoop dig 2 at most and when you are in the surf trying to recover a target you want to make that first scoop of sand count!

It looks like a great scoop. I have used a Pro Stock Pro Scoop for a few years...it has a 90 degree angle handle mount. I think the 20 degree angle of the 720i would be a big advantage. These scoops are basically a lifetime scoop they are built to well...I think you could not go wrong buying the 720i. I am planning on selling my scoop to fund buying one myself...I will have one by the time the water warms up and the action really gets going.

I have three scoops. Two are angled 20 and 30 degrees and one is the 90 degree stealth. The angled ones are my favourites, much easier to use! The stealth is a super scoop and the only reason it comes behind the others is because of the angle.

Per a recommendation I am also now looking at the T-Rex sand scoop. Somebody told me that the 720 is tougher to use in hard packed sand or gravely conditions. Their take on it was that when trying to start the pointed tip in a harder bottom the scoop tended to roll to one side or the other depending how foot pressure was applied. Any opinions on this? They felt the rounded tip was easier to get started straight in harder bottoms.

I have a Sunspot scoop and I would not hunt in the water with anything else. It's my first scoop and my last. I will use it until the carry me away. Good luck.

I got the straight handle stealth toward the end of last summer. It's like a front end loader compared to my biggest angled K co scoop, and i like the way the handle floats....It took some getting used to,made for some sore muscles the first couple times.,but I'm sold on it!!! I'm 6'3"and it suits me fine.

In my opinon the tip does just the opposite it keeps the scoop from rolling in almost every situation. As far as angle.... couple of things. In deeper water the angle helps to keep you from drinking so much water and getting to a deeper target.... but you sometimes loose floater that the 90 doesnt. Lets not forget that LIFETIME warranty.... Chuck is absolutely customer service oriented.... if there is a problem he fixes it NOW. I also use a pro scoop.... but way before Ron came out with his Trex i had mine changed to 20 degree on top.... the only way to go and he has really got it right now. Get the WATER version not wet sand one they are the better made.

fongu, which sunspot scoop do you have?
I think it's called a classic, but will have to check and find out. I bought it last November or December and my memory isn't what it used to be. I used it at the river today, but sadly only found 9 cents and a marble. I couldn't go where I usually detect because some young people were swimming and they are more hot bloodied than me, because I had my waders on and my feet were still cold.

I bought my 2nd Stealth Scoop last year which was the 790 & liked it a lot, much easier to dig with than their previous rounded model which was several years older. However after seeing the 720i with the 20 degree angle without the handle inside the scoop, I traded it back to Stealth & got the 720i. I really, really like this scoop. It is huge, & has 1/4 & 1/2 holes & is so well designed. I can't wait to get in the water with this. With the smaller holes,I shouldn't lose any small jewelry or chains. I would highly recommend it. I will second the praise for Sunspot Stealth company. They are great to work with & their service is top notch!

I had a copper bullet fall out of my scoop Saturday and wish it had smaller holes, but then it would take forever to wash the sand out of the scoop. Just a trade-off I guess, but I did see a modification a few weeks ago to take care of this problem. I had a problem one time with a sterling silver chain that nearly drove me crazy falling out of my scoop and I just happened to see it hanging out of the bottom of my scoop and stuck it in my pouch.

I have the T-Rex, it is worth every penny. It grabs a lot of earth very easily, the only downside I see with it is that there is a "lip" on the top of the scoop. I am not sure what the purpose of it is but it gathers a lot of wet sand under it, this scoop is heavy enough by itself and any added weight (even a bit of wet sand) makes it a bit heavier.

Were do you get the T-Rex at? Are these scoops good for the wet salt bank? Not the water.I need the go to name of the business for these different scoops?I guess i am going to hang with you beach bums for awhile. But only until winter gets back. Then it is back to relic huntin for me. :-D
