You guys ever seen a Saint-Gaudens $20 gold coin dug? Me either! But, each hole I dig I am getting one hole closer.

No, I can't blame this on cabin fever. I am out digging most days and making a few older coin finds. The forums are pretty dead of late, so thought I would give you all something good to think about and look forward to. I saw a Saint-Gaudens in a coin shop today and they are one beautiful piece. HH jim tn

St Gaudens huh?! You really had me goin there Jim! I remember when I was a kid, wondering how many coins I would have to dig until I found a silver dollar - still have yet to find the first one, but like you said, every coin dug is one closer!

I almost would expect an old US gold coin in your area from Civil War payroll though.. But what do I know LOL

A dug Saint would be amazing!! And yeah, it's a magically beautiful coin. I also find $10 Indian princess and the unique incuse design of the $5 Indian of that era quite sweet to:biggrin:

Just make sure it is pre '33.

It also is number one on my bucket list. 34 years of digging holes (mostly in the water) I have not seen a gold coin, but I did dig a silver 1773 8 reals...SO there is still hope!

I wonder just how many have been found, or if anyone has ever found such a beautiful coin with a detector.

I dig thousands of possible gold signals, usually end up being pop tabs. I rarely hunt water. I've been digging since 1987, found one Eisenhower dollar piece but never a silver dollar, and have never heard of anyone digging a gold coin. I'm sure folks find them both. That's what keeps us digging, you never know what's in the next hole. Good luck to all.

Yeah, a gold coin find is at the top of my find list, like for many of you. I've been doing this digging thing since 1972 and pretty hard core with it since the early 80's and have been on a goodly number of spots that definitely had the potential for harboring one, but, I am still waiting for one. They do get uncovered, so there is always hope. HH jim tn

I would love to find any gold coin. I've gotten quite afew eary 1800's silvers and 2 half reales from 1700's. But no gold coins.

I found a 1879 silver dollar and a 1914 barber quarter in the same hole last summer in a park in Colorado that has been hunted hard , the only dollar I have ever found, and had a friend that found a two dollar gold coin in the trail that goes down to his mail box , so you never know there out there some where.

a gold coin? Bufff ... not on my list, not near my thinking. Recently found a mud coated coin shone and for a second my face lit up, but it was a dog plate:thumbdown:. With very good gilded, indeed.
I found a "2 real" me is hard to believe even today. :surprised:
What is relatively more likely find a small treasure trove of a few coins. Witness live the finding of treasure with 38 "Duros" - coin like 8 Reales- the day I premiered my AT PRO with my friend "Lucky"

A gold coin is on my bucket list also, although a Disme or Pine Tree Shilling are my ultimate goals. Gold coins are out there; a friend of a friend dug on up in a local urban park.

Didja see Ron(CA) vid up on the 'Todays Finds' forum? :surprised::drool:

I'm pretty sure theres @10 big $20 gold coins lost within a few miles of your house, Jim... that is probably true for most of us...I just dont exactly where..they may be in the deep water, or buried under a parking lot, or perhaps even stashed inside an old metal cigar tin right in that old park? ...but they are there none the less...and this kind of thought keeps a guy out hunting!:clapping:

Yeah, just saw the vid and promptly alerted my hunting buddy. He and I were just talking yesterday about finding a gold coin....and I've been thinking about it more then the norm it seems of late. There is no doubt in my mind there is a gold coin or two in some of the spots I hunt and the same holds true for any of us that hunt spots a hundred years or more old. Yes sir, such thoughts do keep us at it. HH jim tn

Thinking about and visualizing a specific target is important. I dreamt about that Franklin Half for 3yrs before I found one...I've been dreaming of late about a big gold ring on a silver chain, I know thats gonna be one nasty signal! I hope its on a totlot...or in the water or beach, because if its in the dirt, I may easily miss it as trash...:sadwalk:

Thinking and dreaming makes a guys mind focus on that target, and on the areas that target may likely be...same with deer hunting or fishing...I am pretty sure you will get your coil over a gold coin, it will probably be a soft tone, possibly deep and right easy to miss that gentle sound.. in the relaxed state of mind of general detecting, if your focus and visualization took root deep enough, you think about finding it and where, and what it may sound like, something in your subconscience will make you stop and dig it when most other hunters listening for sweet silver pings would not...thats what I think about 'dream targets' and I hope I'm around when you find YOURS!
Mud.
