Stavr scoop pole

I used a fiberglass handle before, but it broke working heavy wet sand. So today I went to home depot and found the "avalanche mountain mover" 18" snow shovel (yellow). The handle came off with two screws that fit in the stavr scoop holes (one front, one back and snug when tightened but you do have to drill a hole in the pole for the back hole). The handle is curved (back saver) and METAL with a handle on the end, so should be stronger and easy to use. Won't get a chance to try it out for a while but thought I'd pass it along as an idea. $26 and 15 minutes to take off the shovel and install in the stavr scoop (I have the evro excavator).

Please let us know how it work out. I'm using a wooden handle from a hardware store but if i can find something better I'll replace it in a heart beat. I had to use electrical tape to make up the size difference to get it to fit properly.

I will but it will be a while before the surf is warm enough. The fiberglass pole I used before had wood at the bottom inside the fiberglass but was not strong enough for a big scoop of wet sand. Be careful with wood! If I have issues with the screws holding, I will drill through for one big screw. I think this is a good pole, strong and light.

Update: I have been told those sheet metal screws probably won't hold with heavy wet sand so went ahead and replaced them with a size 8, 2" screw and nut with a lockwasher. I also put on one layer of duct tape, which makes the scoop snug when I slip it on. It took a little wrestling to get the hole lined up and I did have to slightly drill the stavr hole wider, but am happy with the result.

I would like to see the set up for sure ,Thank you for sharing.

I haven't posted a picture in a while but will try to figure out my photobucket login and post a picture tomorrow. BTW, I am wondering if the Stout Backsaver handle will fit the bottom of the pole near the scoop as well, which could help in lifting the scoop of sand in the surf.

Here is the shovel/pole from Home Depot:

This image does work for me. Can you see it?

...and I wonder if one of these on the high point of the pole more than halfway down where it is somewhat flat will 1) fit since the pole isn't completely flat and 2) work well in lifting scoops? It would be less strain on a back as you could pull on this handle while pushing down the shovel handle...

I like the handle and the s shape of the pole. It looks like it would be easier to just pull by the handle straight out of the hole and just twist the handle and shake and dump the sand. Also a little easier to connect the scoop to your belt to drag behind you. I know you can't wait to give it a go ? Thanks for sharing.

Thanks will have to get one of those
