Static/chatter issues with the SEF 12X10 butterfly?

Pokerman

Hello everyone... quick question. I have had my etrac since March, 2012 and love it. I have the stock coil, and purchased the 6' EQ 2 pro from KellyCo and absolutely love it. It is amazingly stable at higher levels of sensitivity.

I purchased to 12X10 butterfly coil, and it arrived yesterday. I took it to an old park where I had used the 6' EQ 2 pro and had found some nice targets (1908 IH penny, 1916 wheat).

I could not believe how unstable and how much static there was with the 12X10. It was much worse than the stock coil, and I had to turn the sensivity way down to 20-21 in order to operate without constant chatter and static. I did the noise cancel several times, to no avail. Very frustrating. It was hard to even decipher a zincoln near the surface with all the chatter.

I had read that the 12X10, like the 6" coil, was more stable than the stock coil. I think I might have got a defective coil, but i wanted to hear some thoughts on the subject.

Thank you all for your help,

Joe

Never had an issue with my 12 x 10. Sounds like you got a bad one.

ouch this the first ive ever read about a poor 10x12 the chatter i had with the slimline on my ex se was unbearable and the 10x12 was like a mouse in comparison

Yup, bad coil. Let them know and ask for another.

I also hunt with the 6" Excellerator and a 10 x 12 SEF - the 10 x 12 is approx. 5 ounces heavier than the stock coil - ( a very noticeable 5 ounces ) but I've never had any problems with either one.
Both coils are very stable and in my opinion make a killer combo for every day hunts !
I would tend to agree with the other members of this forum - sounds like you just have a deffective coil.

I've used mine on an EXP II and then on my E-trac.... No problemo

I own a 12X10 and use it a lot whit no problems but the other day I stop to a park wich I have never been before and it hapen exactly what you are descriving on yours, I just could't hut at all. so I when bach to my car and got the WOT 15, pluget in and same thing, a lot of noise. then I got out the 6X8 and this coil was smooth like a dream. so I switch back to the 12X10 and set to AUTO and it was much better but not quite the way I like it. and same thing with the WOT. after this I give up and head home for the day.
So I did litle research on the park and find out that this is a new park (fill up) and they used soil from a field were it was a wreking yard (junk yard)
so I don't know if this has something to do with it because of all the trash and fliuds from the cars but I'm not coming back to that park.
Abel.
