Starting to use an add on pocket speaker with the ATX

Old California

New member
I'm sure some of your out there have experiences with add on speakers that clip to ones upper shirt or slips inside a shift pocket, I'm new to using these add on speakers but have to say after using one for a few days for inland hunting find myself not missing the headset.

A friend of mine has hearing problems and when he sold his Infinium gave me this neat add on speaker he was using with the Infinium, It works great with the ATX especially for land hunting. Can see using this allot during the hot summer months especially out in our Ca. Mojave desert. Using the AXT speaker alone is fine but would rather not draw attention but with this little neat add speaker keeps the noise down yet can hear the whispers from the small pocket speaker, Guess it was originally made for the MP3 player. Power supply are 2 AAA batteries, Easy battery access so will be carrying an extra set in my finds pouch.

Even has volume control, Plugs into the special headset adaptor. Can't remember if he had it made or if he put this together himself I'll need to ask him sure is a neat contraction.

Also, Just a heads-up for your ATX users if Garrett comes out with smaller DD coils mounted to the same shaft as the stock coil and I believe they eventually will total weight is a little over 5 pounds. Currently using the smaller 3"X7" Infinium DD with my homemade shaft I made 2-3 years ago for the Recon, These are plumbing materials from a local hardware store and got lucky it works on both the Recon and ATX.

Thank for looking,
Paul (Ca)

I hear you Rob, Some of my friends and family members have hearing problems. I'm ok in that area but vision wise without a pair of glasses I'm doomed just to walk across the street.

You take care,
Paul (Ca)

Thanks! Yeah my buddy gave this to me not knowing it would someday be attached to a future Powerful Pi (ATX), Love using the attached speaker more often now.

Here's something kind off the wall, Don't get me wrong love my ATX for what it was designed for both water and land the waterproof housing is perfect. But what if in the future Garrett came out with a land version Pi? A few years down the road would be cool would be a neat setup for those that detect on land, Tossed this together to hold either the ATX or Recon circuit board and still need to mount the push pad above the handle.

With circuit board, wiring, battery pack, S-handle/shaft and the 5.5"X 7" DD coil total weight is 3.8 pounds. May go with the Recon for this setup, Maybe later after the ATX warranty expires slip in the ATX board.

Thanks again,
Paul (Ca)

Hmmm...Interesting...You should post this down on the general Metal Detecting part of this Forum...lots of us have hearing trouble and also hate wearing 'phones in the heat, or at night when a fellow has to stay frosty as to the surroundings...great and interesting thing here.!:clapping:

Thanks Mud,

I agree, My buddy has poor hearing so he was looking for something to use instead of a headset, It does get hot here during the summer months so he came up with this and I can't remember who made it for him. You're right this needs to be shared on the general metal detecting forum so I'll ask my buddy how he came to getting this neat contraption and get more information before posting other there.

Thanks again,
Paul (Ca)
