Starting to get used to the F4

I've had the F4 for almost a month now, but haven't had a chance to use it much. Took it out for a good session today...23 coins for $23.35 (AUD).I'm finding the F4 a very likeable machine, with good separation and great depth. Of the 23 coins, only 2 or 3 were still in the grass, the rest ranging from 1" to 5". No pics., as they are just current coins and nothing of extra interest or value. I bought the F4 to see if I would like a Fisher machine, and am finding I like it very much.
The 11" DD coil really allows you to cover the ground really well. Am still getting used to it, and soon will try it with a concentric coil, so will keep you posted on that. Thanks for reading.

I just bought an F70 but was using an F4. It was my first Fisher Machine and really it is a good machine. I found the discriminator and notching much more reliable than machines Ive owned from some other companies.(you end up digging much more good stuff than bad). I was impressed with Fisher enough to purchase one of their higher end machines. I did find coins (as early as 1850) and Civil war tokens, rings and more with the F4. I used the 11' DD also. Good luck and enjoy it.

Thanks Osgood. I initially was looking at getting the F 70, but as I'd never used a Fisher before, I decided that I would go for a lower end machine and see if I liked the style etc etc etc. I agree with you about its reliability on ID. although I have used the notching feature yet. Am still becoming familiar with the different tones and numerical ID. Like any machine, it takes time to become familiar with the characteristics, but I feel this is a machine that is worth putting the time into. Thanks again.

The F4 for me is a great little machine as mentioned in a previous post prior to the F4 i was using a Tesoro/Laser machine which cost quite a bit more than the F4. So having got back into the hobby after a 10 year absence of relic hunting on farmland. I decided i would try some coin shooting n jewellery targets on more public sites for a change. The Tesoro/laser was good on plough/pasture but due to the same tone for everything not so good amongst modern junk although i never dug iron. I realised I needed more info from the detector about the targets before digging. And after a few months Im well impressed. In fact a detecting partner who uses a high end Garrett frequently asks me to scan his targets to give my opinion lol as mentioned seperation & speed is excellent as well as pinpoint. When armed with the 4" coil you cant miss the good stuff amongst the bad. Ive even tried the 10" magnum bounty hunter coil but need to campare more to come to any conclusion as to weather its better than the 11"DD but i doubt it but we'll see...
