Starting out

Hello,
I'm just starting to get into prospecting. I've just been out once with a borrowed detector a couple of weeks ago and am lookling to buy one.
I am thinking of getting a X-terra 70 and was wondering if this is a good decision as I am starting out.
Going to be using it to look for gold as I live near some gold fields, but was thinking of hitting the local parks just too look for coins and such also.
From people's personal experiences, has this detector been a solid unit for nugget hunting?

Would the X-Terra 70 be a good machine to get?

Also would like to say thanks for the FAQ section, as it has a lot of usefull information in it. ;)

For prospecting there are three general classes of detectors used.

1. Pulse Induction PI, which with the exception of saltwater beach hunting are dedicated prospecting devices.
2. High(er) frequency VLF dedicated gold prospecting detectors.
3. Multipurpose(All-Arounders) VLF detectors, of which there is a pretty short list(MXT, X70) as far as proven gold getters.

The X70 has proven itself in Alaska, Oz, & the Southwest/West.

I think the X-70 would be a good choice because of it's versatility. The X-70 is good even for a beginner. The learning curve for basic detecting is very short. Later on when you are ready you will have the opportunity to learn all the little tricks the X-70 has waiting for you.

I think the X-Terra 70 with an optional Elliptical HF DD coil is the best "all purpose" detector on the market at the present. With this coil combination, you can use the stock concentric coil on beaches and parks and the Elliptical on the Goldfields to Prospect. There's a lot of high end features on the X-Terra 70 and together, they make this an ideal detectors.

PS: You can get more dedicated Gold oriented detectors but the cost will rise and the ability to hunt beaches and parks diminishes as you move into that range of detectors.

Cheers,

Marco

Hey Marco,
Think thats gonna be the way I'm gonna go for Coil usage.
Also, I watched your video and thought it was fantastic ;)
