Starting new hunt in center of Florida tomorrow.....

I'm starting a new hunt in the center of Florida tomorrow. The piece of land I'll be working on is about 1.5 acres and has an interesting history. There is an old house which looks like a castle and dates back to the 1800s. There was a country grocery store there until about 1920 and it apparently burned down. The current owner found several burnt drawers of melted silver coins just on the ground there a while back. There are also several old cars- Model T and Model A peeping out of the ground. The grocer was rumored to have hidden some valuables around the property back in the day. I don't expect to get seriously into this hunt until December 20th but possibly before. If there is anyone who might be in Florida and might be interested in helping me out with this opportunity let me know. I intend to wrap up the hunt on the 20th through the 22nd of December but can work on it before. If interested let me know. Happy Turket day to all. Marty

I'm in St. Pete, just let me know when and where!! Hope you had a great Thanksgiving.

I'll be in Jacksonville next week for a couple months (RV)..How far are you from there...I would be interested in meeting up...Bud

Met up with Marty today for a little hunting. Didn't find anything mind blowing but had a great time. Hit the property that he described above. Cool place, lots of trash and iron made it tough though. Did manage to find a Presidential token. (Thomas Jefferson) About the size of a silver dollar. $1.39 in clad and a couple of neat relic kind of things. I am sure we will do it again soon.
Thanks Marty,
HH,
Bunker

It was lots of fun, especially having a partner to hunt with. Digging in the dirt and getting dirty seems to make us boys happy. There were lots of old model A and T leaf springs and some large iron rings. Apparently there was a lot of garbage dumping on the property and then someone burned it leaving a lot of metal/plastic slag. There will be more hunts in the area- lots of old foundations around. I used my 5" Exxcelerator some-- looks like a hockey puck. Made Bunker laugh I think but its a good coil. Went home and reread the book on the Quattro by Sabisch. Can't wait for the one on the Safari. We'll do it again. Many place to look out there.

kschae4...Here is the token I found yesterday. I think it was probably given out by a gas station. I nicked it pretty good. Thought I had it pinpointed better, but it was right on the edge of my hole. Rang up at about 35-36 at around 4-5 inches.
Thanks for looking.

Bunker

Bunky, thanks for the specs. A cool looking token.. I can relate about the nicks when pinpointing. I feel I can recover the coin more effectively when I pinpoint twice (second time turning 90 degrees).

Marty -if you haven't already, try researching potential sites with historicaerials.com. I use this often, helping me determine usage of land over the course of up to 80 yrs., in some regions of the USA for a particular property. Great for locating where structures and natural markers have been in the past. One drawback however, is of course, the older the aerial photo you select (usually before 1957), the grainier the photo is. Zoom in or out, input streets, overlay maps (swipe function allows the cursor to move between two selected years, say 2007 & 1940). Sorry, I'm starting to sound like a toy commercial. Enjoy and good luck.

thank you for the data- I'll try it out in the future. I hope there are some Civil War sites in Florida. I suspect there are.
