Hey there all,

I am planning a trip to St. Augustine, Fla. next month....been there many times but never metal detecting.....being THE oldest city in the US...I can only imagine...are there any of you out there that can share any tips or places to hunt...I bet many areas are off limits...Any help would be appreciated

Stay away from any sites that are identified as historic landmarks and you'll be fine. We don't have much off limits here but you need to steer clear of historic markers. And if you try to go out in the middle of the Yorktown battlefield or Colonial Williamsburg and swing your stick they will of course stick it someplace and break it off.

The city IS off limits, but parts of the beach are open to detecting.

Anytime you have hot, sweaty, oily people laying on a beach, and they like to cool off in water that is cooler than their body temp., your odds of finding rings and such increase.:detecting:

 I thought about that as soon as I hit the post button.:surprised:

I know that several years ago on the south end of the beach you could drive on the beach.
I use to hunt there in the mid 90's and I was hunting there one day when a guy found a rolex.
once you cross back over the bridge of lions you can only hunt private property with permission.

Have a good trip.
