Diane and I went out Friday and Saturday trying to squeeze out some more finds before the end of the year. Weather was ok, cloudy and slightly chilly but we gave it a go. Friday we went to the cornfield where we have had some success best finds were a button by me and a beautiful Suspender Buckle by Diane, the chape still moves on it.
After mucking through the muddy rows we moved on to another field that I had hunted for just a bit last year. The neatest find was a large brass tap valve it is unusual in that there is glass in one end. I guess that it was there so you could see the flow of the liquid. Anyone have any more info on this type of valve I would appreciate it.
Finished the day off with our first return to the Eagle Field, found some pocket watch pieces and one button.
Saturday started out a bit warmer but with occasional sun peeping through the clouds followed by spitting rain showers. Checked a couple of bean fields and they were way too muddy to hunt so we went to a small field that we had hunted last year. This is an unusual site as the maps do not show a house here until the early 1900’s but everything we have found here dates from the CW era. We had been there only for 10 minutes when I got a 12-25 signal that would bounce around to 12-31 depending on the angle of my sweep. I was pleased to see the green disc in the hole which turned out to be a semi-key 1866 Indian. You can see the iron markings on the coin which shows why it was such a bouncy signal. We hunted here a bit went to another field where we both got overall buttons. Then we headed for home glad that the hunt gave us a nice keeper coin in what may be the last hunt of the year.
