Spring thaw Barbers....

Chris(SoCenWI)

Well-known member
Hello All,

We had a January thaw that I got out and detected in. Now in the middle of the spring thaw, lots of areas are still frozen but soft ground here and there. But we are due for 4-7 inches of snow again tonight.

Did some terrace trolling again. Managed a couple of barber dimes; 1912 and 1914-D. Few wheats. Found some lincolns quite deep so assuming this soil had been turned over during road construction.

And for the first time in quite awhile: Had some snaggletoothed MF come out and yell at me for detecting. Informed him that the terraces are city property and had every right to be there. Had to pee, was getting ugly so I walked away. Oh well.

Beautiful coins, Chris!

How close are you to Edgerton? If fairly close, can I detect with you sometime when I come out? (GF is in Edgerton so I'm out there multiple times a year.) From talking to a lady in the info center in the old railroad depot, I tracked down an old church/school from the 1800s. All that's left now is the graveyard. Didn't find any old coins there but did find an old brass/copper gas-line (I think) doohickey. It was fun tracking it down at least. Hit the old racetrack there a bunch but the most interesting thing I found was likely a rivet from an old harness. Didn't do too well in general around there. A piece of type--a "Z"--from near an old printing place was probably my favorite find.

Rich,

It is about 30 miles away. I also tried the old race track and got a barber dime, but very trashy.

Shoot me a PM next time you come on out.

Chris

Had a neighbor next to a property I had permission to hunt ask if I had permission then tell me I wouldnt find anything, within 15 minutes I found barber dime in Ex con. and 1896 s key barber quarter in ex con. HA HA jokes on them.

cool down and blow over. It's very hard at times...but cooler heads usually prevail. We can then discuss the regulations with the proper authorities...like Mike is doing about Forest Park.

I find it funny myself when someone starts complaining about detecting City Property. The Home Owner has to maintain it but if one is careful in retrieving items, then what is the difference if a person is detecting that little piece of lawn that is City Owned anyways. Most of them think your striking it Rich and that is what I think about that kind of situation, either that or they are having a bad day or just being ignorant. Glad you found a few Barber's that would otherwise be still lost and most likely never found on the next street repair project. Hope the Snow melts fast for you and Continued Success, Good Luck and HH this year.;)

Just when a person thinks it's about to get nice out, the weather has to change. The Cold Weather should be getting limited since Warmer Weather is getting closer every day. Hope to get out real soon Chris. Good Luck and HH.

that 1914 looks like it was new when it was lost, great job.
