I am so glad winter is about over!!This was the first real hunt I have been on since early November. I hunted three different spots with my Vaquero and had some luck. I found a nice 10k ring but it is smashed. I think I was out about six hours total. The coolest thing was twice finding more then one coin in a hole. In one spot I found four wheats and in another spot I found a Mercury dime and a wheat in the same hole. You gotta love this hobby! :usaf:

That is a nice group of finds birdman! Mercury dimes are always a fun find. Are those all tokens in the one picture? I've had a dry spell on tokens. Seems like when I find one I'll find more than one.

Nice hunt Birdman.

Gold and silver. Can't complain about that.

Isn't it fun to get the V out and go with it?

I've been socked in by rain the last two days.

HH,

Pap ,those are just old buttons of some type. This is an old rail road town so some of them may be some type of uniform buttons but thats just a guess.

Robert Roy ,I hunted three different yards .One has a home that was built in 1940 one that has a home built in 1905 and the other had a home that burned down a few years back. I also had a big bunch of trash I carried out and some large iron junk.

HEY BIRDMAN GREAT FINDS,

WHAT STATE ARE YOU FROM AND DOES THAT RING SAY STATE OF NORTH DAKOTA ON IT? KINDA INTERESTING SINCE I AM A STATE TROOPER LIVING IN NORTH DAKOTA. IT APPEARS TO HAVE OUR EMBLEM OF AN INDIAN HEAD DRESS ON THE TOP OF THE RING. ANYTHING ELSE DISTINCTIVE ON THE RING?

dikamp, I am in Minot . The ring has an eagle on each side of it and there is a state seal or something in the middle but I can't make it out.The ring looks pretty old .

thanks for the reply Birdman,

I only live 40 minutes south of you in Garrison. Crazy, huh. Where did you say you found that ring? That is a great find....neat to find those old rings. Man, I can't wait for this weather to straighten out. It seems to snow every day, not much but just enough and stays cold. At least the ground is thawed out. I hope to get out and do some detecting on Monday at a couple of old farmsteads if the weather permits. Take care and happy hunting!

Dlkamp,I found all this stuff in Lansford where I bought a house. Its about 18 miles north of Minot AFB . I have been through Garrison a few times. If you ever get up this way and want to go for a hunt let me know. :beers:

Birdman,

It sure is nice being able to buy a house and then be able to pull some good silver out of it....that's pretty cool!
I went out today (Easter Monday) to an old farmstead and hunted for about an hour or so and found a couple of wheat pennies in the 40's and 3 other pennies in the early 60's. Man, the wind was howling so bad I had to pack it in early. Pretty decent spot with a lot of area to cover so hopefully can get back and find some old silver. Ended up taking my two boys to the park in Garrison and and then messed around a little bit and found about $1.50 in clad. I can't wait to find my first silver coin of the new season. It's getting tougher and tougher to find good spots to detect. I can say there really aren't a whole lot of virgin soil out there except if you can get into old yards. They can be very productive if you can get owner permission of course. Take care and talk to you later
