SPRING Barber Dime and 1930s Sterling Religious Pin

banditicey

New member
Went over the Border to an Old Canadian Park that Brian had found some Canadian Large Cents at last year

I found the 1930s Religious Lapel Pin which if you look closely has Maple Leaves in the front design and the back is marked Sterling (some letters are missing but it is definitely Sterling)
We were able to identify the age by the back pin and several similar examples on EBay

The 1896 Barber Dime I found was a REAL GOOD FIND because this park which had once been a wealth of Old Coins at every visit had dried up
But finding this Dime really gives me hope that it is worth going back and looking and finding more Old Coins

FYI this park had been hit by many many many MDers last year and many were with the ET

I added this very heavy lead Ball that was found at this Old Park but could it be a Musket Ball? or is it something else used more recently in History?

I put a dug dime next to it to indicate the size

Great finds! Glad you can come over to our Canadian soil and pull out some keepers. Nice Barber!

great finds glad to see you all got out,i found a ball just like that in a historic place where roger Williams was ,dont know if that old good luck ...HH

Banditicy don't overlook the 6 inch coil in places that are pounded hard . I got my ctx in June last year and worked a pounded fairgrounds by me and others I also pounded it with the exp2 with the 5 inch and stock coil the ctx has higher sense setting than the exp2 had it just runs hotter.I found 23 barber dimes and 43 Indian head Penny's most with the 6 inch coil but the thing that amaze me is the Indians I found which is 6 of them where only 3 inches deep did not miss them with the other detectors I used here they just did not sound right I guess .Work slow and if you get a crappy signal try and make it sound good by going around the coin. Most coins that are left are in trash and iron that's what's left so gear your hunt to the other sounds most people pass on the ctx is great for weeding out coins in the worse trash you well ever find that's what I hunt in.One thing is if you get a 6 don't tell me I told you so .sube

Nice find!

Nice finds! Once you get the hang of the Ctx you will be shocked how much is left in the "pounded" spots! Gl&HH

Thank You for the Photo and Comparison

The consensus is that it is a Musket Ball..Really Thrilling and it was only about 3 inches down but it came up like Lead..DUH

And i suppose MDers just passed it by because who would think it would be a Musket Ball

When the Park is So Old I dig almost anything

Regards and HH

(I wish I had found a Merc also to compare the Musket Ball but used a Clad Dime because it seemed appropriate)

Eva: What a beauty of a Barber dime. Feels good to find something like that in a hunted out park. I have never found a musket ball yet...that was really cool. Maybe this spring or summer we can hook up for a hunt together half way or whatever we plan out. Will be so fun!!
