Spray on truck Bed Liner for coil protection

Has anyone ever had a detector go completely NUTSO after putting this stuff on a coil??? If so, perhaps you are one of a few that bought the WRONG type of bed liner...
As I understand, some bed liner sprays have a metallic compound in them (I have no idea what purpose this serves)...Perhaps it is time to re-think using this stuff as coil protection...Has anyone ever used Plasti-Dip??? Wonder if that would work, or be too thick???

HH,

I prefer the rubberized plastic tool handle dip. I usually build up a coating of 1/8" or so for maximum protection.

It wears very well, but each coat must be allowed to "cure" for a short while (over night is usually OK)

I haven't bought any in a long time so I don't know what is available these days.

It can be thinned for brushing on and is easy to touch up when a piece gets worn off. I like the bright colors for visibility.

It must be said that any such coating will likely void factory warrantees.

with the price of coil covers ranging from 5.95 to 14.95 why would anyone risk the warranty by coating a coil, doesn't make any sense to me. my 2 cents

Makers haven't always provided coil covers for every coil they sell and some older covers are not available any more.

When a coil is out of warranty it doesn't matter if you coat it and I think that is a better way to protect the coil anyway as the covers tend to be a nuisance to deal with.

The big benefit to the coating vs the cover is...............coil covers can get dirt/sand/residue in the crevices/openings of the coil cover. This causes ground balance/noise issues. If a coil is out of warranty............I would go with the coating. But as has been mentioned, make sure it does not have metallic particles in it.

is a coil ever out of warranty? I know I have sent in an older bluemax 950 coil from 1991 that had a cover on it and whites sent me a new replacement free of charge, now if I would have coated it do you think they would have sent a replacement? I think not there may be advantages of coating but once done it would be very hard to get the coating off, never stop a conversation with "nuff said" as everyone else may want to addd to this conversation. that is what its here for,

You're right to point out the error of my comment! Thanks!

What I should have said is, "I've said enough!!"

Guess I fit the old saying, "Too soon old, Too late smart!"

I've seen the issue of coil covers or not come up fairly often. Personally, I prefer to use one and don't mind removing it from time to time in order to dump any debris or moisture. I don't have any prejudice against the other options or opinions, but for the price of a cover, it isn't worth it to me to not use one. I do hunt occasionally in areas of sand and rocks so the extra protection is a plus in my opinion, but in the end - do what you're happy with. My two bits.

I use one on my 5" DD.....cause I got a good price from First Texas when I bought the coil........but I ain't paying 27.00 for the 11" T2 coil cover...not worth it. I do use them on my White's units as they are more reasonably priced.

I read on this findmall forum a member uses the plastikote spray on bedliner and he says it works well with no ill effects FYI

When using any of these products check out the MSDS sheet on the manufacturers website. Some of these truckbed coatings contain Potassium Aluminosilicate which I am not sure if it is conductive or not.
