Hunted it yesterday for almost 5 hours used the 9" 3kHz coil, found most of the stuff pictured,........went back to the house today and used the small coil, spent 4 more hours trying to find something mixed in with all the iron, just not much luck..... got one more clad nickel, few pennies, no wheats or silver.

Find of the day was an advertising watch fob, that was the neatest find of the whole yard.

Yesterday and today I spent almost nine hours there. 5 wheats, about $1.50 in clad, sterling ring, the watch fob, toy badge and a TON of trash. I dug every non ferrous signal I came across.

Some neat finds, the "AAA Captain badge" is a badge that we "traffic boys" wore on a white military looking belt. The "traffic boys" were allowed to leave the last class of school about 10 minutes early, so that we could get to our "posts" and keep all the underclassmen in check, No skipping on my watch, and Dont Even Think about Running, or I WILL REPORT YOU!!! At my grade school, only 7th and 8th graders got to be a traffic boy, The best thing about it was getting to "report " the ruffians if they did not obey your every command. Very heady position for it's day. The AAA stood for American Automobile Assoc. ----- who helped to sponsor the junior police. ---- Usually was set up as many patrolman per school, 1or 2 leiutenants, and only 1 CAPTAIN !!! -- the ultimate authority. I'm 56, so many of the younger people won't remember the traffic boys. --Just thought I'd pass it along.

We had stop signs to hold up traffic so the little kids could cross.. what a power trip!

the Jackpine Savage
former Safety Patrol Nazi

Dang Terry, 9 hours of you shootin the dirt where you live you should have needed a wheelbarrow with the way you have been on em! The ground is dry dry dry isn't it........... The dirt here is very dry also. Sure wish we could get some rain and a COOL front:bouncy:I like the badge that's cool. Good hunting.

It's from the School Safety Patrol... Were big in the fifties and maybe later Reg badge guard all Silver , Lieutenants had red, and Captains badge used to have Blue in the center. You got out early and helped the other kids cross streets............. Everyone wanted to be Safety Patrol.....you looked after things while on duty too.

found this info on the net, and mine is clearly marked like the article below states, so it is NOT a chinese copy....lol

Well, it seems that the market is still flooded with fakes. The Chinese copies are more common than the real thing. The facts are that the AAA in the center of the badge was the original issue. The oval circle around the AAA's is a badge that came out in the late 1970's and 1980's. The ones that are worth anything at all are the older style AAA badges, The way you can tell is to look at the reverse side near the pin. The words"Grammes" "Allentown" shold be clearly visable. They were the manufacterers of the real AAA badges, and whatever you hear about the "D3" or the RO on the back is a lie. They are copies from China and are about as old as the produce in your refrigerator. Removed pins are another dead give away. That's done to conceal the truth.

Look what metal detecting does in bringing up such interesting things and gets the stories and juices flowing! Thanks Bigholes and Elton and Goes4ever on the AAA badge explaination, very interesting! My mom was also on school safety crossing patrol in about 1948 or so, where she wore a strap around her and she is now 75. I saw a B&W picture of her and it looked like a white strap. Can't get much more info from her now as she already took her sleeping pill and is dopey. Mom was also a fancy hotel elevator operator in about 1953-4 and got movie stars autographs including Marilyn Monroe(when she was standing with Joe Dimaggio), Alan Ladd, etc. Also some photos. Movie stars do not mean too much to me as I think alot of people are brainwashed with idol worship over them and the same for sports players (and Obama) also, but worth some money, good stories, collectables and conversation pieces(like the AAA badge) , and memories for mom.

I like the badge, if it was found by me, my son would be a very happy little cop. * : )

Great finds, I like the patrol boy badge, don't think I've seen one in 55 years or so when I was in elementary school.
