Spencer Bullet

Kans C

New member
Hi all,
I usually don't find many relics however circumstances have brought me into a couple of relics. I was hunting a park in NW Kansas and came across a rifle shell apparently Spencer rim-fire. The ID measures .525 " and I believe 1.17" long. It is definitely rim fire and appears to have been fired from a Spencer based on some Internet information I stumbled across. Is this a 56-52 Spencer? Also in the same park found a fired lead bullet measured .500 at apparent undisturbed areas and as much as .515 in others about 3/4" long.Left the items a t home. May try to post a photo next weekend.
Thanks,
C

This look like it?

From what I've read, the .52 Spencer fired a 350 gn bullet over 45 gns of black powder for abt 1100 fps.

This was the "Assault Rifle" of the CW.

Here are some bases with firing pin marks...

The one on the far right was fired in a Spencer...next to it is a Starr carbine.

Looks most like the Spencer on the right but not clean enough to tell for sure. Could possibly be the Star carbine. I will have plenty of time tomorrow AM to take a photo and figure out how to upload it. Have not done that in along time. Found out that there was a Historic Indian ambush on the railroad workers within a mile of the location where found and the workers fled back to the town. Thanks for the replies. Will photograph tomorrow.

The bullet found in the same park appears to be similar to the one shown but seams to be slightly small fo the 52 call will post a photo along with the spent cartridge tomorrow. It does appear that the cartridge is Spencer fired from a Spencer.
Thanks C

OK here goes nothing. It took awhile to figure out how to resize the darn thing. As I stated before the bullet appears to be exactly .500 diam while the ID of the cartridge appears to be .525 avg. One of my other hobbies is BPCR and my experience with reloading similar large cartirdges tells me that the bullet and cartridge are not compatible. Hpe this works
