Speed Hunting with X-70

OK, here's my question.

By notching out everything below copper, in a effort to get just copper and silver coins, can the swing speed be increased? i.e. is the response time quicker with all below copper notched out:confused:

The advice I receive is "Low and Slow", which I understand. But there are times when all I want is copper and silver to wrap up a day, or hunt time is limited.

Maybe a dumb question, but at least I'll be a little smarter when I get the answer:lol:

to increase finds at certain sites. To answer your question, notching out target segments has no effect on recovery time that would enhance performance to allow a faster sweep speed. The X-terras can be swept moderately fast without a lot of ill effects if the site is only moderately trashy. Excessive notching can however have an effect on the audio quality of good targets that read close to the conductivity of the notched out segment. This is especially true when using a faster sweep. Older wheats for instance will read lower than a copper penny does in an air test and silver coins near modern junk will give a broken hit if the notches immediately below where they normally read are silenced. I would open up the notches so that you hear all targets that come under the 2 highest tones. You will have to stop and resweep a few more targets this way but you reduce the chance of missing a good one.

that I have dug IH cents reading as low as 24. So be careful when you notch out certain segments, expecting to still get all coppers. The 24 will be a medium tone while set for three tone mode and medium-low tone when in the four tone mode. HH Randy

On the IH's. However, hunting an older park that is still in use could have a lot of modern foolers in the IH's range which would slow down the hunt for the higher conducters.

Thanks Tom & Randy for the good advice.

Now to put what I'm learning to use. Haven't been out much lately:sad:
