Spectragraph Intensity vs Consistency

Could some of you comment on the two options. Is one better than the other in certain detecting scenarios? i.e. trash, iron, relics, coin
I used my V3i today for 7.5 hours. I used the intensity option with the spectragraph today. I dug 6 total successful targets. Five bullets and a button. With 2 of the targets the spectragraph was messy with several red lines while sweeping. The tone sounded a bit broken but didn't sound quite like iron/nail-hard to describe actually. And also dug a 4 inch long piece or rusted iron about 4 inches in the ground and the spectragraph was real clean no red lines at all with the v3i giving a solid 78 VDI on every sweep. I couldn't believe it was actually iron. Would the consistency option used with the spectragaph showed the iron better than the intensity option?
