Spectra V3i - water resistency

New_to_v3i

New member
Hi all,

i bought recently the new spectra v3i and planning now to go to the beach.
Is it recommend to hunt in the salt water? (say 1-2 inch deep. max?)
Whites said on the HP that their coils are waterproofed. Are there experiences around?

Thank you

Coils are waterproof, control box is not. You should consider finding a good cover for the box, and keep out the sand as well. I'm sure others on the forum have some really good suggestions on what they do.

Isn't the control box kind of weather proof, like a light rain? I think I've heard people mention that...

The box is fine in the rain and so is the pod. The speaker does not need to be covered. At salt water beaches I usually had a sandwich bag over the pod and a clear larger bag over the box. This was just to keep the salt mist off to make cleaning easier. It is good practice to never lift the coil higher than the box but there is a plug in the tube to stop water from running back up the tube. One dunk will still ruin the detector. The coils are waterproof.

I take mine into the shower and bathtub with me all the time with no problems. :razz:

seriously: They are just like any other whites detector in the past. Rob is right on the money.

Per someone at Whites, I don't remember who... the only weak point as far as waterproof on the V3 are the battery door and the coil connector. I'd think a sanswich bag and a litle tape over the back of the box and maybe some teflon tape around the coil connector should really protect you and if it's taped well enough it might even stand up to an accidental dunk, but i'd be careful. The pod is supossed to be OK. I wouldn't use a cover on mine at the beach, and I didn't because I don't like to fool with them... everything was fine. If you trip just hold it high and take your lumps but really you should be fine along the surfline.

Hello;
I,ve always put tape on the speaker holes of every detector I,ve had to keep dirt,dust, sand ,rain drops,or anything that can do harm to the speakers or the inard parts of the detector, also likes been said coils are water proof I,ve rinsed the coil off under the fauset in the bath tub without any problems.
