Speaking of Hippies..!

Yesterday I hit a really urban trashy park, gets a lot of traffic, including from me, old place, my Dad remembers it even...found silver and gold here before, a lot of clad too, a bicycle once even!. Chattery mess!...real cold North wind, fired up the 70 and was intent on REVIERING the site for gold..Had to take a pic of two fresh drop pennies laying right on the deck! .

Picked through the mess slow in DP tones, mid sens, -2 thresh....sounded like a machine gun with all the foil and tabs and whatnot, a guy had to double swing and overlap tight to make sure.....worked tight to the chain link thinking maybe somebody lost a ring or chain, hit the corner 'fence jump' crossings too...jacked sens up to 75 and hit the outfields and got into some deepish spills which made my day...eyeballed this empty dope cannister..pop the top and it smells really sweet! Like a dozen Crispy Cremes! Only less sugary and more hippiesh and petchuliar!......lotta fun working heavy trash dangerous places sometimes!, a guy just never knows what adventure awaits once he leaves the house!...

Dont ever wear a tie dyed tee shirt in an urban park after 10am...you are just asking for trouble, unless you can dunk, you got no business being there! ...
Your friend,
Mud

Mudpuppy Could you explain to me the why of the -2 threshold ?? ............ What does that do for the ability of hitting targets..
Thanks buddy I appreciate it..

I dont know...ask REVIER, he knows about all this stuff..!:clapping:.

I've been running -3 for years and felt like mixing it up for a change, a little walk on the wild side if you will, I may try -1 tomorrow just to really get crazy!...one thing, a guy has to find a stable program your CPU understands, and then a guy can hit deep, fast, and often!.. Its hard to describe, but I bet you know when a fellow gets in sync with a particular rig...just knows right away...

This explains it pretty good.
http://www.findmall.com/read.php?37,1061271

Some have explained it like opening a door.
Wide open at 9 you will hear everything.
-9 and the door closes on the small targets.
There seems to be a relationship between thresh and sense on the F70...a ton of combinations possible by manipulating each one.

I turn the thresh up high when hunting in iron, seems to help when trying to pick out high conductors in disc and all metal.
Coin and jewelry hunting it usually stays between -2 and -3 which seems to work fine.
Anything higher than -2 when I am park hunting in 4H skews the tones for me and makes them sound weird but in 1, 1F and 2F it works fine in higher settings but I pick up all kinds of really tiny targets with the thresh at low negative numbers so I leave it alone.
All of this is in very mild soil in Kansas.
I am moving back to the devil dirt in Alabama so all of these settings might need to be revisited in heavy mineralization and iron infested soil.
Nothing I tried or anything else I ever heard anyone else using got much depth in the worst of that stuff.
I am hoping the F70 can do better with the right settings.
If not...looking into getting a TDI.

Hi Elton. Just my 2 cents worth. When you get those sites where the iron is a rusted flaky type, going a little into the minus numbers on the threshold helps knock out a lot of the false high tones caused by near totally dissolved rust. You know, the kind that become ghost like when you try to dig it?.
Also Mud and I have had conversations in the past where we felt by running negative numbers in the threshold along with milder sensitivity settings you could actually experience what seemed to be a reduction in coil pattern size which acts much like a sniper coil in very trashy parks etc. I was still able to hit dime sized targets at 5" with a -3 Hope this helps----------IB
Oh and Mud. When you talk about dunking , do you mean donuts and coffee?

Yes thank you ..It helped ... I will admit I am surprised at only 5" on a dime.... I thought the 70's were deeper than that...

Elton that 5"s is with low really low sensitive settings.

Ok didn't catch that in his post. I thought they were deeper almost or as good as an F-75 on depths..

I dug a dime at 5" with sense at 19 with mine.
Could have probably gone deeper, that's where it just happened to be laying.
I have dug targets up to 15" deep with tone AND pretty accurate screen info using the 11"DD coil on my F70.
I have read several owners who owned both that the F70 isn't just as deep as the F75 with the same big coil...but deeper.

Remember the old saying" Your results may vary?" Well if your dirt is different than Johnny Hoe Handle's, you will have a better or worse result
When I first started this hobby, I had a incurable hunger for knowledge. So reading "Tips and tricks of the F5" was a valuable experience for me. Mike's definition of how threshold should be looked at as a door, wide open at 0 was a clever way to describe threshold's effect on your target area. You need to remember though when going into the negative numbers on the adjustment scale, -1 closes the door only slightly which filters the smallest of the unwanted signals. As you increase into the negative numbers such as -2,3,or4 etc. you eliminates larger signals as you go but seems to have less effect on depth than it does on unwanted signal types and that is where the better ground will give you more depth. I didn't mean to hijack your topic Mud but didn't want to miss the chance to input the value of the threshold and how it has helped me. Dog gone Mike Hillis and his whispers from the deep. I STILL WANT AN F5.----------IB

Thats a great Explanation there IBD! :clapping: No worries on the thread hijack thingy...it was a weak post to begin with and needed to go technical so we could all learn something!.
