Speaking of ground balance!

A perfectly ground balanced machine will have no difference in Threshold Tone on the up and down, right?
But it is said that a machine that is ground balanced a bit hot will get you a little more depth.
So do I want the tone to get a little softer or a little louder on the down to achieve this?

Not so true. Power ground balancing makes Your Tesoro silent on the down (when You check in all metal), and it looks the best method to use all the power your detector deserves.
All the best.

Just a Tad louder as the coil approaches the ground.

Generally, if your are searching in the All Metal mode, this would be correct. Just enough adjustment to ignore he ground mineral signal which would allow you to hear responses from any metal target. With some models the manual GB adjustment can be a bit touchy and due to the difficulty in setting the GB, I know I personally tend to make it just very, very slightly positive in some cases, but that depends upon the conditions and the make/model in hand.

A slightly positive or a slightly negative GB might be to your benefit when searching in the motion-based Discriminate mode. This will definitely depend upon the particular detector you have in your hand.

For example, with a White's Classic, you generally need to have just a slightly positive GB in the All Metal mode because the Disc. mode's GB reference is a bit less than that. If you GB "spot-on" for most typically moderate to higher mineralized ground, that might not be quite enough adjustment and the result would be a Disc. mode with a slightly too negative GB setting. Thus, falsing with be a real problem. If you "Power Balance" a White's Classic (a technique I started using

Can one of you kind folks explain what is meant by "power ground balancing" and how it's accomplished? On a similar note is there any method, other than poor performance to determine if a machine with auto ground tracking is reading the ground and adjusting properly?
