speaker and headphones simultaneously?

Is there a way to run headphones and speaker simultaneously?
I'd like to record the sound when making a video and don't want to take the headphones off to do so.

Yes , but only with headphones that are wired in a specific manner.
I have a set of Grey Ghost Ultimates that have been hammered enough that they may work different than intended but still function. They will work with the wireless but when plugged into the machine directly , they have sound as well as the main speaker on the CTX which achieves what you are talking about. I don't know how their wiring differs from other GG models. They have volume control as well as a stereo/mono switch and a limiter on/off .There is a schematic in the manual pertaining to headphones and the wiring necessary to work when plugged directly into the machine but how that tells you which would do what you are wanting to do is beyond me. I have tried a half dozen regular headphones as well as a half dozen ear buds and the Ultimates are the only ones which I have that allow the main speaker to function as well as the phones themselves.

Most headphones not wired for the CTX will give you what you want.

If your camera has a audio input jack, split the audio coming out of the detector running one to the camera the other is your headphones. Simple radio shack audio splitter will do the trick.

I have been using the waterproof set. Thought there may be a hidden key sequence to enable both.

If your handy and can solder a very easy fix. I can send direction and all you need are a couple new component's, IP68 toggle to turn on and off if needed, and a m12 connector. I have both.................or you can wire in a new m12 and it will be on all the time....

No, thanks but I rarely do this. I'll just disconnect the headphones to record videos.
The soldering doesn't scare me - I'm an EE, just makes it more complicated than necessary.

Even easier is just drill a hole in the HP cup, far side and Velcro the cam to the cup .. the audio will carry on to the cam...I've Being using this method for over 6 years now to record water hunting, in fact I think I was one of the first to record a metal detecting hunt video's and with audio. Crude, but as cams got better so did the quality of the video and audio. Noting like setting back and watching the hunt and see a nice gold pop up..how quick one forgets the moment...until watched...

This one is from 2009, one of the better weeks at the Ocean

The CTX requires the sleeve lead of the headphones to signal the speaker to shut off. Most detector headphones required a modification to allow this to happen. There are some links on the CTX Resource Center that demonstrate how this can be done with an adapter. My point is, if you have another set of headphones that aren't specifically designed for the CTX, they will likely accomplish what you are wanting them to do.
