Spare metal detector??

How many of us have a, "backup" detector. I'm beginning to wonder if it's necessary. I have an almost new Tesoro V in the gun safe as a backup but, I haven't used it in nearly 5 months. How about you?

I'm a rookie I don't have one, nor do I want one at this point. I still have my Garrett Master Hunter 7 with two box attachment that I still use. But nothing other than the XT70 but, I'm still in heaven with mine.

I actually have 2 backups. A Tesoro Vaquero, and a Fisher F2. I bought the F2 for my wife, but she has yet to use it, Beale.

I have a Tesoro DeLeon as a backup, I had to buy one as my Xterra-70 was in the shop for quite a while. It is a good backup machine.

or even a "backup". I like to think of it as having a few "extras". Seriously, I do have several detectors, just as mechanics have more than one set of wrenches. Different tools for different jobs. Depending on how you hunt, where you hunt and what you are hunting for, having an "extra" detector isn't a bad thing. I've had as many as a dozen, at any one time. Currently, I have an XLPro with the 350 Snooper coil that I really enjoy using in nasty-trashy areas. At 6.59 kHz, that 3.5 inch coil separates with the best of them. Now, if Minelab ever comes out with a small DD coil at 3 kHz, I might have to retire that XLPro. I also have an Advantage for those times when I simply want to "beep and dig". Nothing responds any faster, runs any quieter, or hunts any deeper than my Advantage. The Advantage and TS800 coil is an excellent combination for combing an old bean field. For extreme target separation that requires a slow sweep, I have an MXT equipped with the Sierra HotFoot coil. If you are unfamiliar with that coil, it is a 2-inch wide X 9-inch long DD coil. As with the 350 Snooper on my XLPro, it ain't a depth monster. But the super narrow target "window" serves a purpose for me and the type of detecting I do. With all things considered, however, my X-70 and 6-inch DD coil combination is the one I "go to" a vast majority of the time. JMHO HH Randy
