Spanish coin from Acapulco

Are you sure that is gold?Looks to me like one of those reproduction coins.I've never found a real one,so who am I to say.

If it is a real Escudo, it looks to be a presentation coin made for the kings treasury and is worth quite a bit.

Hmmmmmm.....doesn't even apporximate the look of gold. And, the detail of a coin that presumably has been awash in the sea for a couple hundred years is highly suspicious.

I thought the coins of that vintage didn't have a milled edge, (surface milled.) The idea was to prevent coin clipping. The quality of the minting looks too good to be of that vintage by I'm no expert either. The copies normally say copy on them but it is Mexico so all bets are off as far as conforming to legislation.

I do hope that it turns out to be some wierd, unique and valuable coin though.

Cheers,

Very interesting and strangely flawless looking coin........Could you possibly give us some details of the circumstances surrounding the find....in other words tell us the story of the find. Type of beach (if it was on a beach) was it in the water, drysand, wetsand?? what type of detector do you use? what else were you finding that day....was it a remote location or was it on a public beach in front of a resort? Give us some details here.....I know that some folks have their doubts about the validity of the find...... Hope to hear back from you.....Brian

The coin was found in drysand, when the sea scratch the sand in a public beach whit a pulse detector (Goldquest ss v.1).

Either way thats kool. I have found some fakies in the sand here in Florida. I think people enjoy messing with "that guy with the headphones on over there". I will say, yours looks much more genuine than the ones I have found. You might try researching the area you found it and see if any of the spanish fleet ships went down around there or if it was a port on a navigation map....If you found it in a heavily touristed area, it could be a repro but, the only way to tell is to weigh it and take it to a coin expert. Good luck
