my friend mentioned me to a contractor friend of his, because this contractor couldn't find the water valve at a house he was working on.
I gladly stopped by and within 10 minutes found it for them. the contractor is going to keep me in mind if he's ever working on a historical house so that I may detect it...
in short talking about our hobby can get you leads quite often.

Congratulations! Now you need to think of a strategy to convince reluctant farmers to let us hunt their land!!!!

I have had mostly positive results...But, I am talking farms near where I grew up, or I know someone that knows them etc....I haven't had to do many real cold calls over the years, but I still have lots and lots of places to detect. A lot of those are from simply talking to co workers, Facebook, my wife mentioning that I detect to her friends, etc.
