Hi;
Just getting back in to detecting again.
I had quite a few machines last year-tesoro's garretts fishers and minelabs.OOPS yes and the whites.
Of the minelabs, i had the Xterra 70 and the 705 but the safari I liked better.
I sold everything but wanting to get back into it.
I was thinking of getting the GTI 1500 just to play with but still thinking as ever about the GT.
What is with them, are they still as great as ever
There are so many deals in the forums my head is spinning.
Did someone take them over

Sovereign GT IMO is one of the best detectors money can buy. You can get a great used one at a great price.
The latest model (GT) is the best Sovereign thus far. It's a very well rounded detector that's hard to go wrong with.

The GT is the best Sovereign ever made. It lacks some bells and whistles of the Etrac and Explorer, but it is still a great detector. Set it and forget it. I like to spend my time detecting not pushing buttons. A great detector in heavy mineral soil or the beach. Minelab was recently purchased by another company. Detectors and accessories are hard to get. I don't know if things are improving or not. I haven't tried lately. Some people say a mid east gold strike is to blame. Everything is being sold there for top dollar. There are deals on this forum. You just have to check in often. Stuff has been moving quickly in my opinion.

One of the features I like about the Sovereign is the ability to hip mount. My right shoulder is shot. Being able to hip mount is a blessing. I also like the ability to mod the Sovereign. I recently had a meter installed where the speaker is. Less wires, and easier than ever to hip mount. The Dixie mods have been getting some good press on this forum lately. I had mt Elite modded by them. I have yet to compare the modded Elite against my Gt with out the mod, but i will.

Bang for buck is what it is all about. The GT bangs. If you want to look at a computer screen on every target then you better get something else. If you want to swing fast and cover a football field in an hour you definitely better get something else. But if you want to go out and take you time and find some deep targets among iron & steel or heavy mineral soil or wet beach than the Sovereign Gt is a great choice.

IMO If you're going to do a lot of beach hunting you won't be disappointed ( I was digging targets deeper than I like) with the GT. As for trashy parks it did not perform well for me. It might be because I'm used to my "Dora" the Explorer.
Thanks,
Cal

Even the older models of the Sovereign will out perform the newer detectors from other manufactures.
For salt water beaches they is the nutz.

OK thanks I was just wondering if there is any difference between the older used ones Vs a new one but I guess they are made exactly the same way.
David f --I posted looking for a used one in great shape but only left it up a couple of hrs.Seems nice to have some chump change in my acct..I have let some nice deals go by with the mater included.
Then after they are gone I call myself stupid for letting it go.
Have a great detecting spring everybody.
