Soverign Explorer Qwners

Anybody out there own both machines? Is so I would like to know how they compare to each other.

I have owned two Sovereign's and have had the Explorer now for a little over a year. The Sovereign has the advantage of being able to be hip or chest mounted. It is one of my favorite detectors. It does not however have near the adjustments, options, and depth of the Explorer. My first time out with the Explorer I found a 1916 dime in a place that I have literally swept my coil over several times over the years. It was just too deep to be detected with the machines I had before. The dime was in the ground probably a good 9 or 10 inches, and maybe on edge. The disavantage of the Explorer is that it is heavier, and cost more! Having said that, you get what you pay for. I did find an ounce and a half 18K (or better) gold medal with the Explorer. There's a picture of it in Western & Eastern Treasures annual best finds issue, towards the back (I think on page 73). In my opinion the best feature of the Explorer is being able to go back over areas that have been hunted hard, and find deeper, more disguised targets.
Hope this has helped some...

Got them both and the Sovereign to me is easier to use and with the Sunray DTI meter dig less junk than I do with the Explorer. The Sovereign is hot on nickles and can tell the nickles from pulltabs better than the Explorer in my opinion. Up utill lately the Sovereign with the Sunray S1 probe was the nicest setup for finding coins in the holes, but now Sunray makes the new X1 probe for the Explorer that makes the Explorer awsome too for finding the targets.
The Explorer has more adjustment you can do than the Sovereign so you can customize it for differnt uses and for differnt areas. I find the 10 inch loop that comes with it is a little big for a lot of hunting and the new Sunray 8 inch Stealth coil makes the Explorer much easier to use. I also find the Explorer seems to find the deeper targets more often than the Sovereign even though my deepest coin I found was with the Sovereign with the 12 inch Sunray loop on it.
Now that we have a pinpointing probe for the Explorer it would be hard to chose if I had to get rid of one of them as they both have their good points.
