Sovergn Meter Mouting Question

I was wondering how the meter is attached to the sovergn.
I don't see any fitting that came with it?

Anyone have a photo they can share of how you may have your meter mounted.

Thanks for your help!

Hey Larry. This is how I did it. Pilot hole drilled into top of handle. Tube clamp around plastic cap on top of handle. Large diameter, but flat profile screw head mounted through V-clip. This worked for me, may not be right for some. Hope this helps. HH. Matt

There should be a plastic mounting clip for the meter to mount to on the shaft.
If it is not there, then there should be two small holes where the clip mounts to the shaft with rivots.
Sometime ago someone stated that their Sovereign shaft did not have the V- clip as some call it and it may not
come with the machine now, but is an accessary.

Thanks for all that responded to my post.

I wll have to see where I can get the V-Clip.

Good to help such helpful people :)

Thanks Again!

I can't believe Minelab stuck the V-clip on the GT in such a hard to see location behind the hand grip. It was useless there, and now you're telling me they don't include it in the first place anymore? Almost like they've done everything they could to make people not want to buy a Sovereign. Bad meter location, heavy shaft/arm cup, expensive meter for something that probably costs $15 in parts, and so on.

If your GT does have a V-clip you can mount it several ways. Drill out the two rivets and then all the way through the shaft. Take two long bolts with flat heads and if you need to grind the heads down a bit so they will clear the meter when it slides onto the V-clip. Now stick the two volts through the top of the V-clip in the former rivet mounting holes. Slide a washer onto each bolt and then secure the bolts to the V-clip with a nut on each. Now you've got the V-clip mounted to the top of both bolts, held in place against the heads by the nuts and washers. OK, put another nult on each bolt and then a washer. Spin the nut and washer onto them far enough to clear the shaft. Insert the ends of both bolts through the shaft. Stick another washer and nut onto the ends of the bolts and snug all four nuts up properly. You of course should adjust things to where the meter rides above the hand grip in viewing. Cut off the excess bolt length if there is any. Done.

That's the way I did it the first time, but then when I built a custom slight weight shaft for my GT I used a bike end bar for my hand grip and then followed a tip on here for the meter. Got a copper pipe hangar from a home improvement store ($1-$2) and mounted that on the bike end bar, then attached the V-clip to that with a few flat headed screws. Done. It would also work with the stock grip and is easy as pie to do.

This is another reason why we need stickies in this forum. All these meter mounting methods should be at people's fingertips. Talk about costing yourself Sovereign customers because of the crappy way they mounted the meter BEHIND the grip, and then not offering easy solutions. Well, there are commercial fixes for this too out there where the meter is raised or mounted off to the side of the shaft.

That set up look dangerous. My Soverign XP Pro is hard to see in the original position when I lay the detector on the ground
