Does the Minelab Sovereign series, do well inland? I know they are great beach hunters. I just wonder if it would be good for relic hunting old mining areas?

Is there a Sovereign that is better than the others? Or should I say, which of the older models is good to get? I don't feel like spending $800.00 on a new GT, and end up not liking it. So I am thinking of picking up a used Elite, XS or XS-2a? Is one better than the other for what I am looking to do?

Sovereigns are a great inland detector for coins and other non ferrous target, but they hate iron in most cases. They have to be swung slower than many other detector to do the best with them. The GT I feel is the best of the Sovereigns, but if you are new to the Sovereigns I feel the XS or the XS2 and even the XS2a would be the way to go if you don't want to spend a lot and yet get the power of the Sovereigns.
I will let you know you need patience to know this detector well and you have to practice with it to get good as the more you use it and understand it the more you will see why so many of us swear by the Sovereigns and not at them like we do with some detector.

i have a xs-2a pro and i couldnt imagine life without it they work great on the beach like you said and i like this unit for relic/coin hunting as well combine this on the beach with the 15" wot and its a combo in my eyes thats tough to beat gool luck, swing slow and stay low!!!:detecting:

I have had these models The Original I didn't think this Sovereign was that bad,but it drove me nuts because it didn't have a volume control knob.Second Sovereign Elite this one had a remote switch for pinpointing this was my least favorite model.Third the XS Sovereign this is my favorite no mods but accessories to make this one work. The Sovereign GT I bought to get a Tornado 10 inch coil for my XS and to be fair didn't use it that much before it sold, in a quick run through my coin garden and air test didn't see any difference, but never use this unit in the field..
