I'm thinking about getting a sovereingn myself. But one thing kinda bugs me is the position of the controls on the box. Doesn't it bug you guys having the controls under your elbow while detecting?
I wonder why Minelab didn't design it so the controls are on the side where it would be easier to get to.

Gosh I really never preceived it as a problem ,but I never really gave it much thought either, the only control you really operate would really be the Am switch which some people use to pinpoint ,and some do opt to move that to an external switch and then place it in a more convient spot but its not really an issue to me. its a real good unit go for it........good luck

If you hip mount the control box the controls are easy to get at the way they are, if they were on the side then they would have a problem hip mounting.
I have mine on the shaft yet, but used to hip mount the control box as it made it lighter weight when I would swing the coil for 6-8 hours a day. Now I only get out a few hours at a time and just shaft mount the control box.
On 1 of the Elites and 1 of the GT I mounted the control box backwards on the shaft so the controls were pointing forwards and easier to get at. I just ground off the stop on the bracket and rounded it a bit so the bracket would fit.

Hi

I can vouch for Rick's backwards box. I bought it from him and it's great to use that way. I agree, if it was under your elbow, it would be a headache to me. Awesome machine. Good luck-Mark

i just set it and foget i never have to touch it as i have Sunray meter and pinpoint switch mounted up front on top of shaft, works great set up this way.

after a while your accustomed to it..its a piece of cake. Its a matter of moving your arm slightly ahead and doing any adjustment necessary.Really you dont have to do a whole lots adjustment anyhow...just set her up and shes ready to go.HH

I have two excals and an exp II and have been disatisfied with the differences between the exp and the excal...mainly the sounds. I just received my New "used" GT today and took it out for a test drive on a beach that I've been stripping for over a month with both the excals and the exp II.

The position of the box didn't bother me at all as once I got the sensitivity dialed in it was smoooooooooth! Found over fifty coins, one elephant ring (silver), one ear ring silver with cz's and what really blew me away is I found a wheat penny at about 16" I heard a whisper and went for it....thank god for the monster scoops and their capacity.....they come in handy for the Sovereign depth.
