how bout a little help ! I would like a sovereign for the beach / how does it handle wet sand and salt water?? thx's

It is super at the baech in both wet and dry sand, only knock is the control box is not waterproof and if it gets wet then you are in trouble , but it is superb in a beach enviorment.

I've heard that you should cover it with tape to keep blowing sand out of the control housing but seems I recall in the old days this could also cause excessive heat to build up. Any thoughts on this? Also, do you prefer to hip or chest mount of keep the box on the shaft? Thanks.

I chest-mount mine. I have a harness that was made by White's years ago. I don't know if they still make them but if they do it's perfect for the Sovereign electronics.

I've never had a problem with sand getting into the speaker and I hunt beaches a lot.

Thanks a lot, Steve. I'm using a chest mount as well and have the coil cable secured in places to reduce the stress at the connectors. Still probably more cable stress than mounting on the shaft but the reduced weight makes it so easy to use. The bag that came with the unit has a cover so I think that should help to keep the sand out. I would also think that today's electronics probably run much cooler than the old technology but I'm not really qualified to say. Thanks again.
