Sovereign xs pinpointing??

I must be missing something here since this coil (8 inch coinsearch) is a little different to pinpoint with. I would really appreciate some input. Thanks

The Coinsearch and the other Minelab coils for the Sovereign are double D coil. These have a hot band that goes from the very tip of the coil to the heal of the coil. Now when you get a signal the target can be anywhere in this hot band from the tip of the coil to the heal, so what we do to find it is go to all metal pinpoint and swing the coil side to side to center the target in this hot band and while doing this start bring the coil back to you until the signal goes away as now the coil is not over the target. still while swinging it side to side slowly move forward with the coin until you have a good signal as now you know the tip of the coil just seen the target, so this is where the target is on the tip of the coil.
Now another way i use a lot on the deeper and iffy ones, but it will work on all target is when you go to pinpoint and go side to side to center the target you center it only be going side to side with the coil, when it is centered push the coil to the ground so you don't move off that spot and turn 90 degrees and then go side to side again until it is centered, now that target will be right under the very center of the coil as you centered it in the hot band, then turned and moved the hot band 90 degrees and centered again so it will be now under the very center of the coil. This works good on the Sovereigns and can find the target right on every time unless the coin is at a angle. I also have a Sun Ray S1 probe which is worth its weight in gold for both surface target and deep ones.

Rick,
If I could get a point of clarification. This hot band you are referring to, goes from the tip to the heal. By that do you mean just the center section that dissects the loop??? What about the perimeter, or circumference???

Thanks Gonzo

Yes just the center of the coil are hotter, that is the inch or 2 in the middle of the coil I call a hot band. The edges will not pick up much unless the target is right on top of the ground.
