SOVEREIGN XS Meter MOD

Several here convinced me to keep my used Sovereign XS with Coin Search coil. Everything works perfect, only the external speaker volume is muted as something must be wrong with the speaker. I had the option of returning the machine for a refund, but have decided to keep it and will have the speaker replaced with that flush mount In-Sight 180 meter. I like the looks of the meter and although I really may not need a Sovereign meter (I hunt in the water by Excalibur sound), it will be a fine replacement for the sick speaker.

Only, for some reason the meter will not work with SEF coils? But I kind of like the Coin Search coil and will learn the machine with it for now. I've owned several Excaliburs and for a short time a GT and have noticed some models seem to have better tones (for my hearing) than others. With Excaliburs I prefer the blue-tube tones and this older Sov XS sure makes some sweet music with the right phones! Thanks to those who recommended the meter mod, as I was about to send my XS back for a refund! With the new meter the XS will seem whole again!

Nice choice. That meter will come in handy on the beach. Have you ever wanted to leave those zinc pennies in the sand? Foil is easier to tell with bouncing numbers. A pulltab is easily identifiable even thoIugh I still dig them. Nickels too. I guarantee that you will like the meter. Joe does a great job with the mod. The Sunray coils work well with the meter. So does the WOT.

Goodmore ,
I have luck with every other coil that I run on my Sovereign when using a meter EXCEPT the Sunray S-12 ...........My XS nor my GT want's to deal with the S-12 and I have an older S-12 and a newer S-12, and they both do not play well with the meter when it's internally adjusted for all the other coils in my arsenal .....Jim

No I don't have a problem with the S-12. I'm going to check it out again this evening to make sure. Sometimes I lose track of coil & machine combos. I know flat out the SEF coils do not work with Joe's meter mod.

Jim,

I still wonder if you have a problem with the meter and would be nice if a person could try another one as this is the first problem with the S-12 on the Sovereigns as far as meter adjustments. What I am thinking is the range for adjustments is not as wide as it should be on that meter. What would be nice if someone that has a Minelab meter with the 180 mod will post what the highest and lowest their meter can be adjusted on a quarter and see if it is close to what yours can be adjusted to. Being you tried 2 different coils and 2 different detectors all with the same meter get me wondering if the problem is in the meter itself.
