Been lurking here for a couple of months. Was all set to order a new Sovereign but, life got in the way and I had to lend a relative some coin. Anyway, I don't know how old the Sovereign model is but...Do you feel it can still hold it's own? Any thoughts about it getting a bit dated? Please tell me how you feel about it. What do you like or dislike about it? Not bad-mouthing the machine because I still plan on getting one. Thanks

XWYO,I had three GTs at different times and have used and owned the entire Sovereign model lineup. From my experience coin hunting with the Sovereigns the older models will work fine. The Original Sovereign I would avoid, because of the appetite for hot rocks.Any of the other Sovereigns models with a S-1 probe,180 meter and straight shaft will perform better for coin hunting than a stock GT without these accessories.Head to head the GT is the best Sovereign model, they are all deep, and all work on the same principles.Good Luck Ron

No question that any of the Sovereigns will do more and find more than many of the higher end detectors will. There are some that are better I am sure, but to me no matter what detectors I have there will always be a Sovereign with the 180 meter and a S-1 Probe in my collection of detectors. There is a learning curve too as there is so many different tones to get used to, but these tone will let you know what to dig and what not to , just dont give up and you will do well.

One more thing is you see Donny from NY is posting again on the Sovereign forum as he has one again, had some before and tried many others too, but he knows what the Sovereigns can do and it is good to see him back to a Sovereign again.

The GT is a classic. A great machine and I like all the optional accessories and coils available for it. HH. Matt

Rick....you are correct only I'm from NJ lol...... I have used them all but always return to the SOV GT unit because in my honest opinion once you master it, learn it's language ...SLOW down your swing and watch the 180 meter that is all you need to find some amazing things ....not to mention that if you hunt inland and beach it can scan flawlessly with out black sand effecting the unit at all..... Try that with a Tejon, XLT, or many VLF units.....Minelab makes killer units and believe me I have returned and learned my lesson there is a reason with all their newer units the SOV Gt is still amongst them:thumbup:....good luck out there everyone ...HH

The Sovereign is still light years ahead of the competition thanks to Minelab's BBS technology when it comes to depth, true ID at depth, and handling bad ground. It's deeper and separates better than any machine I've ever owned over the years. It doesn't have the bells and whistles of some other machines but in terms of depth and separation (12x10 makes this even better) I haven't owned or compared it to any machine that did any better in those two respects, which is all I care about when it comes to performance. There are days though that I miss looking at and toying with a computer screen, so I'll add an old Explorer II back to my line up some day with a 12x10 on it for days when I'm in the mood for that, but it won't be replacing my GT for most days.
