SOVEREIGN-STAINLESS STEEL BOLT AND WING-NUT??

..................Thinking about changing out the original nylon bolt and wing-nut to a stainless bolt and wing-nut!! (The coil flops somewhat!) Not real familiar with the BBS technology, SO IS THIS A GOOD IDEA OR NOT?? It doesn't effect much on single frequency detectors but again I have no experience withe the BBS technology!! Just wanted some good advise before heading out into unknown territory!!............THANKS...........Joe

I don't think I would use anything metal near the coil.

I don't think it would work as well as it will affect the Eddie Currents I would think.
I have had no problem with all the Sovereigns and Excalibur's in this area with the plastic bolt or washer stripping out if you use the factory ones, but have seen where the rubber teardrop washer will wear and not hold the coil tight like it should and can see if if this is the case some may try to over tighten the nut and bolt causing it to break or strip out..

Don't go there Joe! The unit WILL be affected by the stainless steel bolt and it will cause falsing or interference with regard to the signal. Here is what I did on the Excal (assuming that the bolt is the same as the Sov), as I had severe flopping issues with mine, as well. I drilled through the coil ears and lower shaft to 5/16". I installed a 5/16"X2" hex coarse thread nylon bolt and nylon wing nut. Most hardware stores will have this type of hardware, readily available. I used a new set of teardrop rubber washers too and all is well. Assuming that the coil ears and lower shaft are not wollered out, from excessive flop already. This mod will not cause issues with the signal. Let us know how it goes.

............................THANKS EVERYONE....................I knew that I would get good advise from this forum!...............The flopping issue is mainly with the larger coils NOT with the original stock coil!...............Will probably redrill it to fit a 5/16th nylon bolt and nut! Thanks Again.................Joe

joe just go to home depot and they have a whole section of plastic or nylon nuts and wing nuts please dont use metal near your coil believe it or not it will pick it up and yourmachine wil nolonger be as effective it will sound like a video game going off everytime you turn it onand if its the rubber washers that are worn like mine are home depot also has plenty of round rubber gromets that can be trimmed to fit the holes in the shaft
