I have used all the different Sovereigns and when the Elite came out I like the coil as it was lighter and seem to work better. I also like the battery pack they had as it made better contact than the drop in battery. What I did not like was the position of the knobs as they moved them from where they were before and were easy to knock out of adjustments. I also felt the signals sounded deeper then the actually were over the Sovereigns before. I even thought maybe it was not as sensitive as the older ones too as I never seem to dig as deep as I did before, so I tried another Elite I got in on trade and it was the same. When the GT came out I got one and seen the controls were now back where they should be like the other Sovereigns and it too had the freq switch like the Elite, but also added a iron mask switch to turn on or off the iron mask which was always on before and what I find works the best too. The GT also has a all metal mode for those that want to hunt in all metal and with this has a auto track you can lock once it is ground balanced if you want. This to me is more for those that want to prospect than coin hunting as in the disc mode you don't need to ground balance as it uses the BBS. I also found that the GT is the more sensitive of all the Sovereigns and seen some better ID on the deeper targets than before. I also see it will false a little more being it is more sensitive too. Some of this if you are new to the Sovereigns you may not see as much as those that know the Sovereigns well. Bottom line is the Elite will work fine for you, but feel myself the GT is the better Sovereign because it is more sensitive, ID better, can use silent search if you want, like the straight shaft better and the controls are in a better location too.
