Sovereign question

New member
I am thinking about buying a new sovereign. There is a dealer who does free "internal mods" if you get it from him. Does anyone know what these mods do and if they actually improve the sovereign? Thanks.

Free is usually a tall order, I know of a couple cats that do the internal mods , but I dont know of any experienced sovereign user that swears by the mods, and I also dont know anyone that thinks the mods create a better machine performance wise, with the exception of the remote pinpoint switch modifaction, and that mod does not create a better performing machine. It may however save miliseconds if you are a guy that needs to switch to Am for pinpointing pourposes. I personally think the sovereign is best left untinkered with, and feel that spending time mastering a stock unit is going to be a better use your time and resources. ......I realize I didnt answer your question but hey I got my two cents worth in there.............. If you do decide to get some internal mods done, I think David a Dixie metal detectors is the guy that can help you eek out an extra inch or increase performance if thats the route your going to take...........good luck ...........Adam

I agree with Adam, he gave you solid advice and information, I have tried allot of ways concerning Mods and the Remote Pin Point is the Best as Adam stated.
If you could find A 11" CoinSearch Minelab Coil, I would buy it.
Good Luck and Have A Great Day!

I personally feel Minelab knows what they are doing and feel an unmodded unit is my cup of tea and even like the 550 meter...
Free mods is a tall order and usually charged for them and for gosh sakes many swear by many mods so up to the individual I would guess.
Visit Ken Herres Sov. Mods and should give you a good idea rel mods.
Again whatever works and certainly nothing against those modding same.
I usually do cosmetic mods but leave the internals as they came from Minelab and yep have used them both ways so your call I guess..

Minelab know what it is doing with the circuitry of the Sovereign and by changing anything internally will only give you more problem learning it and performance. With the New Sovereigns GT Minelab give the options of running silent search if you want with a toggle switch, the older ones did not and had to be taken apart and done which was part of the mod done on the Sovereigns, but now you don't need it. The only mod i would do on a new Sovereign would be a remote pinpoint switch and possibly a lighter more balanced shaft so it wont feel to heavy. Everything else works awsome when you get to know this detector.

I agree with all the guys.
I don't know of any mods that really make a Sov work any better. It's more on personal taste to fit your way of running the machine the way you like.
