Sovereign Question

The GT is the last version of the Sovereigns and the Elite was right before the GT. The GT is a bit more sensitive and seems to false on iron a bit more because of it, but with a little experience you can tell the difference. The GT has a switch for silent search so you can turn it on or off so you can run with a slight threshold or with a silent threshold which I use the threshold 99% of the time, but can see where silent search is useful at times. The GT also has a ground balance toggle switch so it can be used for gold hunting also and can be locked in one number or tracking the ground. It also has where you can run with iron mask on or off as all the previous Sovereigns didn't have it as it was on all the time as you wanted to get coins close to iron where with it off it runs smoother, but miss coins close to nail or any iron.
The Elite is silver in color while the GT is blue and they both look about the same other than the face plate which has some of the controls like the on and off/ volume control in a different area and for some it was in the wrong place as we that used the older Sovereign would be turning the wrong control. The GT put them back where they had been before. I believe the Elite has the freq switch and know the GT has it so if you got any electrical interference you could switch to a different freq and used also when hunting next to another Sovereign, few of us like the freq 2 better then freq one.
Either one when first gotten may be a little confusing and most hate it when they first get it by all of the different tones, but this is the language of the Sovereign and when you get to know it you will see why so many love this detector as it can get so much more of the good target other missed and leave most of the trash for others.

Rick, Thanks for the information. I bought a GT today but had the chance to get a used elite. I decided the GT was the way to go. I ran a Excal for most of the summer and really liked the way it worked so I think the GT should be easy to get use to.

With a good set of headphones the GT tones will tell you so much more that what the headphones on the Excal tell you. I despise the headphones on the Excal after having used the GT with good headphones. The tones are so much better with good headphones.

What headphones do you use?

:ausflag:Hi I am new to the sovereign gt I asked the same question about headphones the majority answer was sunray pro gold so I have some on order regards john

There are a number of good quality headphones on the market. Sunray Pro Golds are reported to be excellent. I purchased Killer B II's when I bought my GT and have not had any reason to regret the purchase. I have noticed that both brands are repaired by the same individual.
