Sovereign or Sun Ray DTI Meter

Circle C Digger

New member
Hello, I am thinking about getting a meter for my Sovereign Elite. Is a Sun Ray DTI Meter a better choice than the Minelab meter? Any other meter recommendations would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Circle C Digger:minelab:

Some folks find that modifying the Target ID meter to cover a range of 0 - 180, (like the Sun Ray) instead of Minelab's 0 - 550, provides the same performance as the DT1.
Good Luck

They don't make the Sunray DTI anymore to my knowledge..Although some felt the 180 was superior to the Sov. 550..Personally I had no problems with the 550 and felt the DTI was a bit big and gaudy while the Sov. was more streamlined amd could easily be changed to the 180. Matter of personal preference I would think...and what you get used to..

spend a lttle extra and get a Patriot Meter. Awesome. dead-on accurate. Its not digital but its the best meter ever designed for the Sov. Contact Joe Patrick, Patrick Electronics in PA.

the patriot meter is a total waste of money .......thatsthe facts dont waste your time .....the difference between the minelab meter and sunray dti is the number scale .......the factory minelab meter is scaled to 550 where the dti is a 180 scale meter .......you will find that ""most people '' prefeer the 180 scale as its more stable and quicker to respond then the minelab factory meter .......now a rescaled minelab meter where you change the 550 reading to 180 is probally the best meter (IMHO).........good luck with whatever choice you make ......

I have used the Minelab 550 meter the rescaled Minelab meter to the 180 numbers, the Sun Ray DTI and the Patriot meter and even a night Hawk meter that also is a 180 numbered meter. The 180 number meters seem to give me a much better ID on those close coins with trash. The Patriot has the easiest calibration and the best light on any meter I have used, but for ID I didn't care for it as it couldn't ID the close tone or numbered targets like a 180 meter.
Those I hunt with and those around here I see get the better and deeper find all use the 180 meters of Sun Rays and I wish they still produced them as I feel they were the best there is.
The main thing is to get to know your Sovereign well as the tones is where it is at and the meter for the close tone and number ID you need to separate the trash from the coins.
