Sovereign Or Quattro

rpspencer

New member
I have a Sovereign that I have used for several years and I really like it.

I have several friends who would like to go detecting with me, but don't have a metal detector, I am thinking of buying a 2nd detector.

Question is I can't decide between a 2nd Sovereign or a Quattro.

I hunt mostly in old yards, schools, and old churches.

I have found several deeper silver coins.

I don't mind spending a little money, I just want the best detector.

Thanks,

Randy

I would recommend the Explorer II if you like your Sov that much. That's what I did when I was running a Sov and found the Explorer even deeper and better at IDing targets. Why get another Sov when you already have one? Personally, I really like the Xterra series and if your just looking for a second detector that is basically turn on go, get an Xterra 30 or 50. Reason I say that is a 70 goes for the price of a used Explorer II so you have to make that decision. I got sick of swinging all the weight of the Explorer and Sovs and decided that for the ergonomics and fun factor sake, I would put all my eggs in the Xterra 70's basket. Hope I'm not disappointed. Don't think I will be....HH George Fatizzi

I would steer clear of the Quattro. In my own opinion, I would rather have an Explorer just for the option of speeding up recovery time. The Quattro to me was one of Minelab's lemons. Just didn't like it at all. HH George

Both are great.I bought a Sov gt end of last season and so far i love it.However my hunting partner BRATNY (check out some of his finds in the Quattro forum)is really cleanin up in "hunted out parks"with his Quattro.I know thats not much help , maybe flip a coin?HH

too much learning curve. I would go with an X-Terra 50 or 70. Something easy to turn on and go with. Maybe even a Tejon or an ID edge or a Musketeer Advantage. Your friend's might be overwhelmed by a Soverign if they just use it occasionally.

rpspencer,

I am in the same thinking as jbow.

I too have friends and family that would like to swing a machine with me, and my machines are not 'beginner' or 'turn on and go' types.

I have spent a couple of years swinging different machines learning what I like and dislike. I still might try to get an Xterra. Not sure right now.

Anyway, for a buddy of mine who doesn't own a machine yet, he has used all of mine, and it seems like he isn't going to buy his own anytime soon. One way to look at it is that I made my investment for myself, but my buddy is reaping the rewards in being able to use my machines.

Another way to look at it, is that my buddy can try before he buys. If he ever buys.

I guess what I am saying, is if you are going to buy yourself another machine, buy it for your self or your wife. Don't think of it as buying it for someone else.

Pretty much a lemmon .........get another sov .. or and explorer ......the exterra series is good for a back up / friend to use kind of unit ...........

You have got to be kidding. Either that or you have never used one before. I've already logged in 32 silver coins and 18 indian heads this season and its barely started. You should get your facts straight.
