Hi guys, i have always had a drive to explore so I deicded to get into metal detecting. I hve done much research ad thnk the Sovereign GT is the best bet to get and grow wth. If someone could please help me with a few things it would be great.

1.) Will it find gold? like a gold nugget te size of a penny? I understand very small gold will not be found, but im under the impresion gold coins and rings will be detected. Is this accurate?

2.) How long is the shaft when completly disasembled?

Thanks

Hi T,
Yes, the Sov will detect gold rings, gold coins, and certainly gold nuggets. Not as deep and as small as a dedicated gold machine but then it's only a 6th of the price.
Ideal for beach hunting coins and rings. Depth will vary with ground conditions and coil size.
Longest piece is the top rod and measures 33.5 inches over control box.
A very good machine, you won't be disappointed.

Not only will it detect gold coins and rings, but many think it's the best gold ring (and thus gold coin) machine on the market, getting more depth in any type of ground than just about any other VLF detector. Most detectors are VLF (very low frequency). The only exception would be a PI unit (pulse induction). They have good depth but almost no form of discrimination. Minelabs may be VLF machines but they use multiple frequencies instead of one or two like other detectors. That's what gives them the depth and sensitivity. The Etrac/Explorer use several more frequencies than the Sovereign but many say they don't hit as well on gold compared to it. All three of these machines are pretty even on depth for coins and rings.

From what I've read the Sovereign isn't the best for tiny nugget shooting. Many prefer the Whites MXT for that. Those units can be had pretty cheap used so if you plan to do nugget shooting pick one of those up just for that. It won't compete in depth with the Sovereign on rings or coins in all ground conditions (unless the minerals are low or it's using a bigger coil) so you'll still want to use the Sovereign for that most of the time.
