Sovereign meter 180 scaling question ...

Exactly what is the 180 scaling mod on the Sovereign meters?
Why is it desirable?

I have had a few Sovereign detectors in my time but never used a meter as it adds to the weight and I prefer to hunt by the sounds.
Just wanting to know.
 
Older 540 or 550 meters can be changed to read 180 like the newer meters. Some feel it makes the ID more stable, while there are a few who prefer the higher resolution of the older meters for seeing certain target patterns.
